Adaptation Instructions
What you need
- A microwave
- A microwaveable plate
- A wet paper towel
- A bowl of cold water
Wrap face mask
Roll up part of the wet paper towel and place it between the two side walls of the mouthguard to prevent it from collapsing. Wrap the mouthguard in the remaining wet paper towel.
Heat mouthguard
Place the mouthguard on a microwave-safe plate and heat it in the microwave using the normal heating function:
- 900+ Watt microwave: 70 seconds
- Under 900 Watt microwave: 80 seconds.
Important: Do not heat for longer than 80 seconds. If you are unsure of the microwave wattage, try 70 seconds. If the mouthguard is not soft after heating, heat it again for 10 seconds.
Remove face mask
Carefully remove the wrapped mouthguard, making sure the soft sides do not collapse.
Caution: The paper towel is hot; the mouthguard is warm – handle with care. The material should feel like chewing gum or modelling clay. If not, you may need to briefly reheat the mouthguard.
Adjust face mask
Center the mouthguard and place it on your upper teeth.
Before biting down:
- Place your thumbs on the inside and index fingers on the outside of the mouthguard.
- Press firmly against the material from both outside and inside so that it conforms to the shape of your teeth.
- Work your way from front to back to achieve the best fit.
Optimize fit
While biting down lightly:
- Hold the mouthguard firmly with your fingers.
- Close your mouth and suck your lips tightly against the mouthguard.
- Ensure a good suction of the mouthguard: continue pressing your fingers against your lips and closed mouth to improve the tooth impressions in the material.
- Do this for 1 minute and 30 seconds to form a good impression.
Allow face mask to cool
Place the mouthguard in the bowl of cold water for 30 seconds. If the fit is not yet optimal, go back to step 1 and repeat the process.
Adaptation by Boiling Water
If no microwave is available, steps 1-3 can be replaced by the following steps:
- Boil water: Fill a pot with at least 25 cm (4 inches) of water and bring it to a boil.
- Soak mouthguard: Remove the boiling water from the stove. Submerge the mouthguard for 60 seconds.
- Remove with spoon: Use a spoon to carefully lift the mouthguard out of the water. Hold it by the sides, shake off excess water.
Then follow steps 4-6 as described above to fit the mouthguard.
Further information
The material will have hardened after approx. 24 hours and will give you an even better hold.
Do not readjust before each use.
The mouthguard can be reshaped as often as desired.
For Brace Wearers: Do not press on brackets or wires or suck lips if you have braces. The material will naturally form around the brackets or wires. It is essential to consult a dental professional before use with braces to ensure compatibility and safety.
